Shoney's Boy Scout Navigators Scholarship Program Passes $500,000 Mark in Scholarships for Students in At-Risk CommunitiesNashville, TN  (Restaurant News Release)  As an all-American iconic restaurant brand, Shoney’s makes a difference in the communities it serves every day. And through its sponsorship of a unique scholarship program benefiting the Boy Scouts of America’s Navigators program, the Shoney’s initiative recently eclipsed the half million dollar mark changing lives through scholarships for promising high school students in at-risk communities.

Through the generosity of Shoney’s and its service and vendor partners since 2006, more than $500,000 has been raised and 154 scholarships have been awarded , including 41 during the past two years, who have shown an ability to achieve success while overcoming significant personal obstacles and challenges.  The Boy Scouts of America’s Navigators Program honors deserving young achievers by giving them the opportunity to learn more about their future career options and aiding them in developing their personal occupational paths.

The scholarships were awarded during a two-day celebration this summer in Nashville which featured a reception, silent auction, dinner with live entertainment and a golf tournament.

In a letter to event attendees, Nashville Mayor Karl F. Dean, stated, “I am proud to support the important work of Shoney’s and the Boy Scouts of American in furthering the education of our youth through this unique program. This education and scholarship program not only provides career guidance to all students in the program but also recognizes students who have successfully overcome adverse challenges while staying committed to their education.”

“Shoney’s scholarship recipients live by a philosophy of determination,” said David Davoudpour, Chairman and CEO of Shoney’s.  “They inspire others to excel and give us hope and confidence in our future. Shoney’s is very excited to continue our partnership with Boy Scouts of America to make dreams a reality for some very deserving future leaders.”
