Zagat Survey Awards Starbucks Coffee Two First Place Honors Including Best Coffee

SEATTLE  (RestaurantNewsRelease.com)  Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq: SBUX) has been voted as No. 1 Best Coffee in the Fast Food and Quick Refreshment categories and as the No. 1 Most Popular Quick Refreshment Chain in Zagat’s 2010 Survey of National Chain Restaurants released today. More than 6,500 surveyors participated in Zagat’s online survey, and this is the second year surveyors have awarded Starbucks the top honor.

Besides having the best coffee among all quick service chains in the list, including Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonald’s, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Starbucks was voted as the Most Popular among the 25 chains included in the Quick Refreshment category.

“We’re honored that Zagat’s coffee drinkers have again selected Starbucks as the best coffee in the country,” said Cliff Burrows, President, Starbucks Coffee U.S. “We take pride in offering coffees from around the world that reflect both their unique characteristics and our commitment to seeking out the best beans. We want to thank our customers, coffee buyers, roasters and baristas who all had a hand in making Starbucks America’s favorite.”

Zagat Survey is the world’s most trusted source for consumer generated, leisure-based survey information. With a worldwide network of over 375,000 surveyors, Zagat conducts surveys throughout the year, providing reliable and easy to use ratings and reviews. As with all Zagat surveys, participants in the National Chain Restaurant survey are frequent, knowledgeable consumers in each of the categories they rate.

In order to ensure the highest quality for all of Starbucks® coffee offerings, Starbucks coffee buyers taste more than 250,000 cups of coffee yearly. Only 3% of the coffee grown around the world is good enough to make it into a bag of Starbucks® coffee. Starbucks is proud to offer both single-origin coffees that reflect the uniqueness of their origins, as well as blends with distinct complexities, aromas and depth. A heritage of roasting expertise also allows Starbucks to craft a variety of roast intensities to match any taste. But, it’s about more than just coffee. Baristas are at the heart of the Starbucks Experience, applying their expertise and connecting with customers each day.

“Our fast food survey is voted on by over 6,500 avid and passionate consumers, each with their own preferences and observations. These results provide an insight into what real customers experience and enjoy,” said Tim Zagat, Co-Founder of the Zagat Survey. “As a leader in the coffee industry, this also affirms Starbucks as a customer favorite.”
