Tin Star Celebrates San Antonio Grand Opening with Free Tacos for Teachers

Casual-n-quick restaurant offers fresh alternatives to Hill Country favorites

SAN ANTONIO  (RestaurantNewsRelease.comTin Star, a Dallas-based casual-n-quick restaurant offering fresh and healthy handcrafted food, opens today in San Antonio. The restaurant located at 7863 Callaghan Road (at the corner of Callaghan and Horizon Hill), is honoring local teachers with one free taco plate for educators with school identification.

Jay Battle, franchise-operations industry expert, San Antonio resident and Texas native, owns the San Antonio franchise, which offers a menu of fresh, handmade food using spices commonly found in Hill Country cooking. Located in the heart of San Antonio’s medical and business community, Tin Star will feature a new gluten-free menu, as well as complimentary fresh chips and three varieties of salsa made daily.

“As San Antonio resident and native, Jay and I know the dedication teachers have to this community,” said Mike Rangel, Tin Star brand owner and president of M.D. Rangel Enterprises. “We wanted to do something special for Tin Star’s return to San Antonio, and therefore chose to honor teachers for all their hard work during the past school year.”

San Antonio teachers with valid school I.D. will receive any single taco plate on the Tin Star menu during the first week of business, giving teachers the opportunity to sample the various menu options. Additionally, the restaurant offers free kids meals every Sunday and Wednesday after 4 p.m. with the purchase of an adult entrée. Seniors and military personnel will also receive 10 percent off an entrée or a free drink with their purchase anytime they visit the restaurant.

Battle joined the Tin Star family after nearly 30 years of senior management and franchise-operations experience with industry giants Whataburger, CiCi’s Pizza, McDonald’s and Tricon Global Restaurants (now Yum! Brands, which owns the KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands).

“My wife Sarah and I were looking for ownership in a concept where we would be proud of the quality, healthy choices and unique flavor profiles. Tin Star rose quickly to the top of our list,” Battle said. “Americans are paying closer attention to the quality of foods they eat, and our handmade salsas and other menu items are made fresh daily. With lighter fare and gluten-free options, we offer San Antonians a unique twist to the foods the region is known for.”

Battle is already planning two additional San Antonio Tin Star restaurants. While the specific locations have not yet been announced, Battle plans to open the restaurants in the next few years. The 3,285-square-foot Callaghan location offers free wireless internet and will employ 35 individuals.

“We have a very controlled and focused growth plan for the franchise,” Rangel said. “Not only will we add locations selectively to provide a good opportunity for our franchisees, we are limiting expansion to Texas and Oklahoma so we can better manage the distribution of our ingredients and ensure the freshness and quality our customers have come to love.”
