Barney’s Beanery Defies Bad Economy To Open Latest Roadhouse in Westwood Village

Building on Legendary Image of Late Nights, Duct Taped Booths & Depression-Era Chili Beans, Bruin Town Venue is 5th Beanery

Westwood, Calif.  (RestaurantNewsRelease.com)  Management at Barney’s Beanery, the venerable roadhouse/famed celebrity hangout, www.barneysbeanery.com laughed in the face of dire economic news and opened the doors of its fifth Beanery – this one in the heart of Westwood Village, home to the UCLA Bruins, at 1037 Broxton Ave.

The newest Barney’s Beanery, located a block off the UCLA campus in the walking friendly college village, takes the famous décor of the original West Hollywood Beanery’s – complete with road signs, candy colored booths and a ceiling of battered license plates — and adds a second floor mezzanine for better viewing of sports mega screens and “event” seating.

“The Beanery is thrilled to be part of the Westwood Village scene, welcoming those on lunch break who want a quick bowl of our signature chili and a front row to our  50 inch plasma TV cheering on their favorite team,” said David Houston, Barney’s co-owner.  “For Bruins, a flash of a Blue Bruin student card secures a special Bruin Menu where every dish is $5”.   Nuances to the near replica are:

  • Magical stadium seating where diners are perched in viewing stands to eat and watch live sporting events on a near theatre–size plasma screen
  • Relaxing in big soft couches (complete with coffee tables) in semi-private comfort while dining and/or watching the game
  • Swiveling ‘round at the bar in bucket seats that once graced the interior of America’s greatest classic cars while viewing the Megatron Video Wall .
  • 170 sq ft of hi-def screens, Xbox, Wii, Karaoke and 9 sound zones to entertain

The West Hollywood Beanery has long been known as a celebrity watering hole beginning with early glamour days stars such as Greta Garbo and Clark Gable, and later counterculture musicians like Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. The venue is still going strong with regulars like Drew Carey, Adam Sandler, and Quentin Tarantino, and a slew of notables that reads like the nightly guest list of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Barney’s Beanery in Westwood will offer the same mega menu of 700 items that defies the latest diet trends.  To quench thirsts, Barney’s Beanery boasts close to 200 imported and domestic beers with 40 on tap.   The newest venue follows the success of Barney’s Beanery in Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade, opened in 2004, Barney’s Beanery Old Town Pasadena, which opened in 2006 and Barney’s Beanery at the Burbank Collection which opened in 2008.

Barney’s Beanery Westwood is located at 1037 Broxton Avenue, 310) 443-7777.  Hours are Sunday-Thursday, 9 a.m.- 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.-1:30 a.m.  For more information and to join the Barney’s Beanery Community, visit www.barneysbeanery.com , follow Barney’s on Twitter, or friend us on Facebook.
