Harrisburg, PA (Restaurant News Release) Arooga’s and the Hershey Bears know how to throw a party. They also know how to raise money for a great cause.
Five of Arooga’s restaurants, in partnership with the Hershey Bears, teamed up Wednesday night in support of “Running For Rachel,” raising $6050 for the charity, besting last year’s mark by more than $1000.
“We are thrilled that Arooga’s hosted us for the Running for Rachel fundraiser. Along with the amazing staff, the Hershey Bears and the incredibly generous patrons, we raised more than $6,000 for cancer research,” said charity spokesperson Erin Guss, sister of the charity’s namesake, Rachel Guss, a beloved community member and college student who passed away in November 2011 from duodenal cancer, a rare form of the disease which is extremely difficult to treat.
Since then, family and friends have continued on a mission to raise awareness and funds for gastrointestinal cancer research. On Sunday, April 26, 2015 runners and walkers are invited to join at City Island in Harrisburg to continue Rachel’s fight against cancer and honor her memory at the annual Running for Rachel 5K Walk/Run.
For the third year in a row, Arooga’s decided to get a jump on the event by raising funds in memory of Rachel, who is remembered by several of Arooga’s team members who knew her well.
“This is a charity close to the hearts of the Arooga’s family. As we knew they would, our local communities really came through in coming out to show their support of the Guss family and their cause, and we are so happy that we can say that we exceeded last year’s funds raised by over $1000,” said Arooga’s co-founder and President Gary Huether, Jr. “ This is truly a testament to the kindness and generosity of the people of Central Pa, and we are thrilled to have partnered with the Hershey Bears again this year for another successful fundraiser for Running for Rachel.”
